Youth of today has no interest in 70s prog scene

Discuss.

(Is this a good thing?)

Jedey 04-24-2011 07:22 AM

Why would the young folks of today want to listen to gramps dull old Rush records?:p:

Dotoar 04-24-2011 08:04 AM

Yes they have. I know lots of people who worship The Monkees.

Janszoon 04-24-2011 08:12 AM

I wouldn't expect these guys to be into prog:

Monkees are worthy.

Howard the Duck 04-24-2011 08:36 AM

I'm not worthy to lick the Monkees' shoes

You can lick the shoes of Peter Tork but not Michael Nesmith.

Godspeed is real good ****, but Ive heard it called mathrock -or summat like that elsewhere. Bagg would call it avant-progginess.

Baggs once licked the tires of Davy Jones's Vespa.

I'm 19... and I like prog.

Paedantic Basterd 04-24-2011 11:15 AM

70s prog? Probably not for the most part. 70s music? Probably also not for the most part.

Baggs 04-24-2011 01:42 PM

I want to know everyone's age here.

There's still plenty of young people who give a sh*t about 70's prog, but it's an aquired taste. Over time the likelihood is that less and less young people are going to go back to 70's prog for inspiration. A lot of todays youth look back to the 80's and 90's nowdays to be inspired by the past and in another 10 or 20 years time that situation is going to change again. Time moves on and so does youth culture.

Baggs 04-24-2011 02:16 PM

Anyone who has posted here or anyone who is thinking of posting - I want to know your age.

And I'm 11, Baggs. Prog is the singular worse thing in music, I don't even know if you could consider it music. Also I love top 40 and penis.

This is so true.

I have to say though that allmost all my friends do listen to 70's prog (not just prog), it's also about being interested in music I think

Baggs 04-24-2011 03:38 PM

Probably the biggest distributor of prog cds (his own label) in the US maintains the youth of today are not interested in 70s prog (especially the more obscure bands). He says they are only after "crazy rock".
He should know since he releases both obscure 70s AND metalprog.

Janszoon 04-24-2011 03:50 PM

Probably the biggest distributor of swing records (his own label) in the US maintains the youth of the 70s are not interested in 30s swing (especially the more obscure bands). He says they are only after "crazy rock".

is this thread locked?

I'm 16

DoctorSoft 04-24-2011 11:54 PM

I am 34 years old. I love Prog and living with my parents.

Moon Pix 1985 04-25-2011 12:07 PM

Prog rock has always been an acquired taste. Even in the early '70s during the height of prog's commercial success it was still a minority taste. I don't think its any less or any more so now but I think most kids nowadays go for the simplicity in the same way that most kids did back then.

s_k 04-26-2011 03:16 AM

26, no probs with some old or newer prog, but I'm not that much of a prog-fan.
I don't think that has anything to do with my age though.

Howard the Duck 04-26-2011 03:18 AM

I'm 16 and I love all 70s prog.

I mean I so completely dig Bohemian Rhapsody.

s_k 04-26-2011 03:25 AM

You make me sick even when you are not serious :D

Howard the Duck 04-26-2011 03:34 AM
