He wouldn't be down to earth enough to pull that one of. He never had any idea what the life of an honest burger flipper would be like.
It's sad that he's gone, but I guess from now on his legend can clean up a bit and become a little more pure and preserved for future generations.

Michael Jackson was never at the center of my musical universe but his talent was undeniable. Michael Jackson was an enigma and it was hard to separate the artist from the hype.
One should not speak ill of the dead and those who have made nasty comments on the occasion of Mr. Jackson's death are crude and ill mannered cretins who are consumed in hatred. It really didn't matter to me if Michael Jackson wore one glove, bleached his skin or slept in an oxygen chamber. We'll never know for sure the truth of the allegations of pedophilia. I think a lot of American politicians, district attorneys, news media types and cops have made careers out of exploiting the sexual predator hysteria. The problem with any kind of witch hunt is that innocent people must be sacraficed to validate the morality of the crusade. In a celebrity obsessed culture, Michael Jackson is considered to be a high value target for an ambitious prosecutor in search of a case that will advance his career. My own belief was that Jackson was asexual and wasn't a sexual predator but rather man who never really had a childhood and spent most of his adult life attempting to recapture the childhood he never had. Jackson's behavior never really fit the typical predator profile and I think he was simply an eccentric man who preferred being around children because his parents and other adults in his life wanted a piece of his talent. I mostly felt sorry for Jackson. Yesterday, literally minutes after his death was offical, the LAPD swooped down on the UCLA Medical Center with a court order for an autopsy to determine if drugs or foul play caused Jackson's death. There are quite a few talented musicians and artists who suffer from bad cases of arrested psychological development and engage in some pretty bizarre and often self destructive behavior. If you've ever been around successful musicians you'll know what I'm talking about. It takes a high level of self obession and personal ambition to be a commericially successful artist in a world that expects artists to be larger than life celebrities. Andy Warhol was, at best, a mediocre artist but he had a keen awareness of what the public expected an artist to be, and he played the game. The big joke is that all of Warhol's artwork was done by young apprentice artists under his supervision, and Warhol did little more than sign the canvass. Which makes Warhol the art world's equivalent of Milli Vanilli. Don't get me wrong I'm a big admirer of the Factory culture, the Velvet Underground and I even did research for Gerard Malanga's own book about his years with Warhol. Warhol himself couldn't believe that he was selling lithographs of Campbell's soup cans for hundreds of thousands of dollars and laughed at the critical assessment of his work as high art. He played the game very well. It really is hard to separate the talent of the artist from his dramatis personae in an age where everyone in the world is jockeying to get their allocated 15 minutes of fame. It's hard to achieve noterity in a world where everyone is famous. You have to sleep in an oxygen tank, practice Kabullah, wear clown make-up or write a song like God Save the Queen to get somebody to notice you these days. Normal people are beginning to stick out like sore thumbs in a culture where everyone wants to be glamourous. Anti-glamour and anonymity possess a unique charm in a world where everybody wants to be a somebody, even if they have to shoot up a day care center or act like a carnival freak to get achieve the own personal noteriety. As P.T. Barnum once said, "You gotta have a gimmick." Michael Jackson played the game and lost, despite all of his talent. The sad part is that Michael Jackson didn't need a gimmick because he was the rarest of musical prodigies who could sing, dance, write songs without wearing one glove, bleaching his skin or sleeping in an oxygen tank. In the end the gimmicks became more important than his natural born talent. Black musicians like Michael Jackson and Prince paid a big price for breaking the MTV color barrier and acheiving unprecedented international crossover as pop music stars. I feel very sorry for the Jackson family because Michael was clearly was the most brilliant talent in a family of talented children. His brothers and sisters who adored him, and are undoubtably heartbroken. I've heard his brothers and sisters talk about him like he was a surrogate father to their clan because father Joe was too busy pushing all of the children to bring home the bacon to support the family. A lot of stage mothers and fathers have selfish motives for pushing their children into the spotlight at a young age. Both of Jackson's parents were overly involved in careers of all the Jackson children and created the dysfunctional family environment that caused most of their children to go off the rails. But in the long run Michael Jackson's choices were his own and he didn't need any help from his parents to go off the rails. He jumped the tracks on his own. May he rest in peace.

Definitely, he was a big influence on pop music. Most musicians and people I know (joking aside), even those who arent even into his music, respect him as an artist as I do myself and rightly so.
