What era do you think marks the height of rock music? Oh, and Kiss is overrated, IMO.

Well for those people arguing about which era best defines Rock music...
There is a difference between Rock N' Roll and Rock... The 50s was Rock N' Roll The 60s was Rock/Physcadelic Rock The 70s was Hard Rock/Physcadelic Rock I think the best era of rock was the 60s, rock did alot of growing up during the 60s and got into more serious issues... Sometimes the 70s music just kind of kills the idea of Rock N' Roll...which is supposed to be derived from the blues... I think the guitar has been over used and has dampened "Rock" and all it's sub genres... And most over-rated band in my opinion is Nirvana.

Rock n Roll is very much the Blues offsping. Rock n Roll was more of societal blip. People were getting sick of the racial tension and the lack of freedom. As soon as rock n roll came about, people such as Elvis started praising black bluesmen, which back in the 50's would have been a pitchfork to the stomach if you weren't famous, like Elvis. It did change, all these new activists rights came in in the 60's, some form of contraceptive was introduced. Rock n Roll changed from being an expression of freedom, to rock, a harder line, exploring various things that rock n roll didn't cover. But i won't agree with guitar killing the origins. Guitar is merely evolution. It's todays version of the harmonica.

And in todays music the case is...people just dont know how to play it, its the same easy guitar riffs...I mean my friend started playing guitar and a week later he could play almost any Green Day song...but he could barely play any Zeppelin or anything like that... But over all guitar is an essential part in Rock music...it can just be over-baring(spelling) at times in my opinion...To many guitar solos can kill the music and lyrics I think...

i would have to say that ac/dc is quite overrated. Although i will admit they are a good band, and id sure as hell rather listen to them than any of these modern "metal" bands, i think that they arent creative enough, like the bands before them (zeppelin, cream, the who, floyd). You can listen to a variety of songs by them and you can noticeably tell they are all ac/dc, but take zeppelin for example, songs like going to california, black dog, d'yer mak'er, black mountain side, no quarter, kashmir, etc. go to show the diversity that they really have. Creativity is an essential part of a good rock band
