I'm not calling cobain a god. I'm saying nirvana may be a bit overrated, because of the martyr status he's been given after killing himself. A large part of Nirvana's fanbase could be described as almost a "cult following" because of Cobain, and the fact that he was viewed by many as the "savior of rock music", which is, in my opinion, a pretty overblown label, no matter how influential Nirvana may have been. Don't get me wrong, Nirvana is one of my favorite bands, and I do think that they were very talented musicians, but over time I've come to the opinion that they really are a bit overrated.

i think the fact they were given the accolade for inventing grunge is false considering the pixies and mudhoney were around before them. they certainly made grunge more commercial and known but as for inventing it- no. also, they made one awesome song and one awesome album yet apart from that, i cant see why their regularly seen as one of the greatest bands ever. the stone roses made an album of similiar brilliance yet nobody puts them in the bracket of best bands. if cobain was still alive today they would be nowhere near the status they are now. that said i agree with jibber in saying he had a great, creative mind and all 3 of them were very competent musicians.

no, that's not right...
i don't listen to rap/ hip hop or stuff like that at all, but i gotta say music has got to have a message and sometimes hip hop DOES have something to say and that "beat" IS their kind of music...
if everyone listened to the same genre would be awful...plus, we'd get bored someday, even if that sounds impossible right now...
and that is one of those things that makes us unique...so i'm happy about that

P.O.D aren't so overrated, at least not where i live...they sound pretty sincere, if you ask me, they're not at all like those bands that have "money" written on their forehead ( U2, in my opinion) but i have to agree with the papa roach part of your reply

You think? I dont like U2 but I wouldnt say that about them.. Theyve changed their style quite a bit over the years but not to sell out, just cause they want to try new things...

I'm not saying all rap is crap and some does have messages, when theyr talking about how the mindless drones take everything too seriously and theyr parents get worried and force the media to censor everything
i believe that
and what they say about how hard theyr childhood was, look at eminem
and tupac tried to start a revolution and but the missinterpreted it and blasted it from their stereos as they drive by shot their opposing gangs. Tupac tried to change people for the better and ended up being assasinated

after that, rap became about money, a bunch of black people braging about the piles of cash they got by SELLING THEIR MUSIC. its about money and NO LONGER HAS A MESSAGE! and what a way to sell cds "i got shot nine times" too bad it never killed him, i like some rap and have never once hear a single song i like by 50 cent or the *** unit (which i think "G" stands for). seriously what a suggestable name
