I don't think Mastodon are overrated. Blood Mountain and Crack in the Skye are two of the best metal albums this decade.

i think you pretty much proved his point. i mean, i like Brann Dailor as a drummer and they've made some pretty solid records but i wouldn't call any of them "some of the best metal this decade." especially considering the strides metal has made in the past few years.

they get a lot of hype where other bands should be, anyways.

Put me down for Led Zeppelin. A great band that gets far too much credit, mostly because most people confuse their massive success with credibility. I am a big fan but they are one of the most annoying bands ever with their insincere approach, a lot of what they did was cribbed from someone and I'm not just talking about being liberal with a few lyrics.

To be fair they deserve credit for being pioneers and for being one of the biggest influences on contemporary music yada, yada, yada, but their music is SO FUCKING BORING!
And anyone who's ever had to spend any time around a diehard fan knows how annoying they can be.
If I never hear another beatles song It wouldn't bother me.

As one member put it, there is a difference between overexposed and overrated. The Beatles have great tunes and Satchmo I wouldn't consider them boring. Maybe some of their earlier, almost non-notable pop stuff but after Sgt. Pepper i'd say it's great stuff.

The Beatles are overrated in the sense that they got far more attention than many of their contemporaries, who were just as deserving of it as them. But this is something that can't be played on The Beatles themselves, but rather on the rock press.
