I always love it when boards get bogged down in the good ol' overrated discussion...
It always makes me wonder what system of rating is being used, and if a band is under or over rated, wouldn't they avoid the entire rating scale? They'd be above being rated or below it... rating would be somewhere in the middle where said band is not... I'm thinking about this too much, aren't I? Sorry, just being facecious...

Anyway, Radiohead is overrated I think. People keep telling me listen to it but I simply cannot hear what's the hype. And Radiohead stuff all feels like it's been done before, that's just how I feel. Probably Blink 182 or something is overrated I don't know, they suck live. |

Hey, you're right about facecious... neat observation!
Don't agree with you about Radiohead, but thats another matter... I think perosnally that every album they've made sounds different to the last for the most part, and they don't sound like any other band on the planet right now. Sure, they've taken elements of what's been done before, but I like the way they synthesize them into something new and unque. Totally agree with you about Blink 182 though...

Radiohead is overrated because there's so many people that listen to their entire discography, love it, and feel that Pablo Honey doesn't count because Radiohead now shun it. The sad truth they need to realize is that it does count, because they did WRITE the album.

Ummm, sure - not following your logic - how exactly does the fact they shun their first album make them overrated? I think I have a vague notion of what you *might* be trying to say but could you clarify that point? Are you trying to point out that their first album was weak and that fans overlook that weakness? If thats the case I kinda understand the point you're making, although i still don't agree with you.
Many great and wonderful bands have albums they shun and their fans shun - and that makes them no less a great band. David Bowie rejects most of his eighties material these days, I consider him not to be overrated. My favourite band, the Church have stated many a time that their 1996 album "Magician Among the Spirits" is a weaker album, and they are no less great or overrated for that reason. My point is that good bands can make crappy albums, that doesn't make them terrible or overrated - they just made a bad album. It happens.
