It's probably something to do with the fact that the Police were really really bad.

ValeBartoloz 01-02-2009 11:12 AM

it's not about being tired of listening the same band for years cause i have listened to Zeppelin or Ac/Dc for such a long time and i'm not tired yet( and hopefully i'll never be:) ) it's about the fact that they are surely a great band but maybe not so great as they are considered...i'm not saying that they are crap i'm only saying that they are not as deep as many other bands despite of the fact that they are as famous as them..

P.S. i' m not english so i apologize for my bad english :hphones:

Radiohead, U2 and Nirvana are bands I would classify as overrated, but each of them have their merits.

Radiohead i shant even begin to debate on, because i will be here all night.

I really dont think Nirvana are overrated at all, Nevermind, like it or not, is an important album because it took grunge from the underground into mainstream consciousness, it heralded a new era if you will. Bleach and In Utero are both quality albums too, whilst Incesticide is a good collection. For such a short recording lifespan compared to other bands, they made such an impact.

No, they're definitely overrated.

Kurt Cobain was immortalized for his suicide, not his music. Nirvana as a whole were a fairly mediocre band that simply brought their music to the mainstream. The generation of idiots who idolize Cobain and his self-venerating songwriting don't sway the fact that Nirvana never brought anything new to the table. They just popularized it.

I don't hate Nirvana. I just don't see sufficient reason to justify adoration of a hopelessly misled pop musician.

Sneer 01-02-2009 02:50 PM

I completely agree with you on Kurt Cobain, i find his immortalization highly irritating, but in my opinion the three albums they made are all strong, and one cannot ignore the impact in particular of Nevermind. He was alive when they made that, and it was huge - his death had nothing to do with its explosion. And In Utero is one of my favourite albums from the 90s. I just think, from a musical perspective, ignoring Cobains death, they are one of the most important bands to emerge from the late 80s/ early 90s

FaSho 01-02-2009 03:37 PM

Overrated or not, their the only grunge band I really consider listenable.

Aurelius 01-02-2009 04:30 PM

i do agree that Nirvana are overrated.
however, yes they did have talent.
anyway, my contributions:
Linkin Park.. i just find them annoying and overplayed.
