I don't think many people think that they are good...

I always thought the Strokes were a bit overrated - not much more than a solid pub / bar rock band that got some notoriety in the press and had alot of hype about them...

I bought their first album, listened to it once, thought it sounded ok, not horrible... and proceeded to shelve it indefinitely. Maybe I just don't get some things, but i don't see the rampant interest in this band.

It depends on how you rate them I guess - they probably wouldn't be considered overrated in a forum like Music Banter because most posters probably don't consder them all that good...

As far as the broader commercial scheme goes, yeah, they're totally overrated - I think it has alot to do with how much Disney channel exposes them and promotes their stuff - and seemingly its working!

The first album was ace. The second album was good but I think a lot of people rate it higher than it should be rated to keep the band relevant. Third album was crap. People were calling them this decade's Nirvana and shit when in reality they were just a band that put out a REALLY good album. It was groundbreaking or innovative, but The Strokes found their own little sound and it was quite refreshing.

what if i say Police?
they' are the first band i fell in love with but through the years i have listened to other great bands of the past and i have to say that they are on a lower level (i'm talking about the musical emotions)

You can say that if you want - I mean it's your opinion you're expressing so go for it!!! :-) I can see how you could grow tired of the Police and find them a tad bit overrated... I think most people can turn that way once they've had enough of a band or artist...
