I've never understood it either. I will say that there can be great artists who don't sing their own songs (Jerry Lee Lewis comes to mind), but few are. As far as I'm concerned, Johnny Ace is the greatest singer of the 50's and Chuck Berry is the greatest rocker. Sometimes I think Elvis only gets credit because of his skin color.

I won't try to hard to make an argument for Elvis, seeing as how I really don't like him, but when I came to the states in the early\mid 1960's my family who were already here were enamored with him, as was much of the country. It was more of a right place right time thing, that you'd have to see to appreciate I suppose.

Not really sure how The Beatles sucked when they were the most talented songwriters history has produced, but okay. It is your opinion, obviously.

But yes, MCR sucks. They aren't overrated though; most people think they suck.

Queen - Their songs lacked any meaning and were full of nonsense and pompous crap.

The Eagles - They had a few nice songs, but don't come close to other country rock acts of the era.

ABBA - I don't think anyone on this forum is a big fan of these, but it's just astonishing the way this band have been praised by simple-minded people.

Prince - Part of the "catchy funk/disco music" thing that plagued the 80s, but lacked any real talent or creativity.

Michael Jackson - Same as above.
dude, seriously, have you ever actually listened to Prince? The guy is one of the single most amazing artists ever. As for ABBA? SImple minded people? that just makes you sound like a pompous jerk. I am a macho prick and even I can appreciate Abba. Queen's songs lack any meaning? Seriously, did your write this just to look dumb? I can understand bashing Abba or Prince, but Queen? You don't even deserve to have the Kinks up as your avatar.

There's no need for you to get rude just because you don't agree with me.

To be honest The Ramones, The Doors and Sublime don't deserve the reverence they get IMO. Not that they are bad, but they don't deserve to be worshiped I guess.

KoRn and Rage Against The Machine both get way too much praise in my opinion. Though maybe I view them as over rated based on the grounds that I view both of them as being among the worst things in all of music history.

Default The Kooks

I think the Kooks are overrated. I recently heard them in concert and they really did not impress me.
