At any rate, I don't think Metallica should be overrated because they had one really awful album. All of their early stuff rocked.

Hey, I'm not saying they aren't good, I'm just saying that they get a lot of praise for music that I think isn't that good. Yes, their earlier stuff was brilliant, but later stuff could very definately be better..

Overrated bands.
I think Slayer is a bit overrated.....don't get me wrong, I love Slayer's music, but I don't really like the vocals. Not just with Slayer, but if I can't understand alot of the words the singer is saying, I just don't like them.
That pretty much goes for any band you can't understand, or any vocalist who does nothing but scream through 90% of the song. Example of a good band that screams. (In my opinion, anyway.) Pantera Phil Anselmo could always be understood, no matter how hard he screamed. Example of a bad band that screams. (In my opinion, also.) Atreyu I've only listened to 30 seconds of 2 of their songs, so maybe I'm being a bit unfair to them. But probably...not. All I heard was a nice sounding guitar, with very crappy screaming. I just don't like how it seems alot of vocalists can go out and scream, and then get a record deal. Alot of the bands probably had to work for years, but I'm seeing a high number of new, "screamo/black metal", bands that just seem to appear overnight. |

I will agree that in comparison to what Metallica usualy does, St. Anger kind of sucked. I still enjoyed the album, but it's nothing in comparison to their older material. I love Rob's bass sound, but they really nead Jason Newstead back with the band. Just because they made a different album, it doesn't take away from what they've already done. As far as all the heat they got from fans about Napster, I'd be pretty pissed off too if I saw my work being posted for free without my permission. You have to realize, being a band is their job. If no one buys their music, they don't really get anything out of it. I'll probably get a reply with, "But they already have enough money.". Think about the brand new bands coming up today. If people downloaded all of their music, instead of paying for it, the record labels would lose intrest in them due to no profit. Then another good band would just slip through the cracks. |

^ nah, they were hyped a bit too much at first, but now they get what they deserve.
