It's not a fucking silent J. It's a J that you pronounce like a y, common in Eastern European language.

Marian - Ma-ri-uhn
Marijan - Marr-e-yahn

In certain accents simmiliar to that of my own, "Marian" sounds like "Marijan". And both sound like Marr-e-yahn.
