Yeah, it's far easier to work on digital, and if they are good quality and there is good digital to analog conversion you can achieve similar things. What would be ideal for me is actually to have both options because i think it's really hard to get some textures with digital stuff, allthou is possible they come naturally with analog. On the other hand you can't get rid of those textures with analog stuff. I supose that given my low budget for now i will stick to digital because of what MicShazam says, it's so much easier to work on them and if you wanna change something after being recorded and even after processed it's still easy to do.

I plug my wife's First Act guitar (her first and only guitar) into my Scarlett 2i2 and put my headphones on. I have next to no latency and if I want to hear how a riff sounds with specific effects I don't need to go buy a peddle (and an amp that it can be attached to). For myself, being able to play as loud as I want, without disturbing my wife, or the kids - that's what works for me. I only play from time to time and have stupid fingers so I'm not about to invest in a bunch of analog equipment that'll sit around collecting dust, and apple juice.

IMO, it's a matter of what ever fits your lifestyle best. Live in a crumby apartment with easily annoyed neighbors and don't want to be evicted? Digital's the way to go. Recording from the 2i2 is effortless. Plug and play. Where as if you were to set up a mic in front of your amp, there's many, many variables to atone for.

I'd keep your digital stuff, and save for analog if you're interested in getting it. If not; get a cheap DAW like Mixcraft, and jam out in front of your computer.

A healthy mix of both is always nice.

If you have the money to find a decent analog 8 track, I would record it onto that so you get the warmth of that sound and then dump it into pro tools for editing. You don't want to be editing in analog, splicing is a pain in the a$$.

I'm not sure how much bass your going to lose going digital, but your going to have to do it anyway if you want to convert your songs to mp3's.
