ok guys i´m wanting to start a band but has a self taught guitarist i feel a bit insecure about not knowing music theory do you think that is very important??
I mean i´m kind of learning theory when I´m composing I go check what key I´m in and use those chords to structure the stuff i come up with but if im asked to play in C or sth ill be like what?? one more thing what do you think about copyright?? I´m thinking about uploading videos of the stuff I come up with on youtube do you think theres a risk of being ripped off or something? so is it safe to do that?? |

I'm a self taught guitarist that knows little to nothing about music theory that has been in quite a few bands, and I put my music on YouTube. I've had no problems with any of it.
I say go for it.

If others expect you to know these things then it might be worth taking some time to learn some more theory prior to make communication easier. Either way I hope you find a path that helps build your confidence in your playing. Sometimes just jumping into playing with others can be a great way to find out where your skill level is and what needs to be worked on and what isn't too important. |
