How Much Whammy Do You Use?
I have 2 trem guitars. I've never been into the dive bomb stuff, but I always likes a little whabble or down tone on harmonics. Boh my Carvin DC135 and G&L Legacy hold their tuning very well. I've had guitars where you couldn't use the trem ecause it would go out so badly

Now that I set my strat up with the bridge flush with the body it stays in tune better. Just cant bend notes up but I never did that anyways. I really use it sparingly unless I'm doing voodoo chile or something.

I've got a Floyd Rose on my Ibanez, but the whammy bar broke a while ago and I've yet to replace it. Now I use the palm of my hand to bend notes upwards or I'll grab it and pull it down a bit, not to dive bomb status but enough. I've gotten pretty good with the techniques I described so I'm not going to get a bar anytime soon.
To answer the OP, usually when I'm doing an ambient track or a noisy guitar freakout I'll put the Floyd Rose to use.

I set up my Strat where I can slide a pick between the body and the bridge. I heard that Jeff Beck has his set up where he can vibrato the note up and down.
