Default Versatile cheapish guitar pedals/ effects

I am looking into getting my first guitar pedal and while I have browsed a lot and have several ideas of what I want I would appreciate peoples recommendations based off of experience. I play lots of different genres and like to be able to tweak my sound. The amp I have sucks and I have wanted an effect/ pedal for awhile but now and really ready for one. I am looking for something that would go well with blues/ rock/ jazz/ funk/ bluegrass/ psychedelic rock. Thanks for any help.

Barber makes some great pedals are reasonable prices. I've owned a few nice comp pedals including the legendary Keeley. The Barber Tone Press is the best comp I've found.

Donner Yellow Fall Delay. I keep researching new delay pedals, but I don't see enough to justify replacing this bargain delay pedal with one for 5 times the cost.
