There's nothing wrong with doing what you're doing. I'm naturally left handed and have always played guitar right handed because it just felt natural.

Your hand will always feel weak when you start out, but you will get stronger over time. Don't worry about it and just keep playing. As long as you're not getting pain or discomfort then you'll be fine (And yes, the very tips of your fingers hurting because of holding down the strings is normal - keep at it and the skin will toughen. The pain you should be worried about is anything in the joints or wrist. Fingertips being a bit sore is normal)
