I need a new Acoustic guitar and need a little help :)
Hey guys and girls, I'm new to the forums, so nice to meet you all!
I am planning on buying a new Acoustic guitar, and was wondering what to choose. I'm mainly going to use the guitar unplugged, so I care more about the Acoustic sound. And well, the price limit is something close to $400. I'm thinking about the Ovation CC24, but would like to hear some objections or alternatives. Thanks in advance! |
Go to a music store and play every guitar within your price range till you hear one thats what you were looking for. Name brand isn't always the best way to go, just explore your options.

I'd recommend Seagull or Takamine's G series.
I personally don't like Ovation, but I know people who do, so that's all a matter of personal preference. Edit: I came damn close to buying the G440c by Takamine; gorgeous guitar, and the tone had everything I was looking for in the price range. |

i would suggest waiting until you have an opportunity to go to a city where there is a larger selection... save up some extra dough... maybe even enough to spend a little more on the guitar itself. make a little adventure of it. |
Well thanks for the info. I looked up the seagull guitars, they are not so affordable for me, so I came upon the Takamine G series FXC, G260C to be precise. So now I'm between G260C Takamine and CC24 Ovation. What about Yamahas guys?

Like the others have mentioned, I'm not a fan of Ovation guitars. I find their rounded backs make them problematic to play while sitting down as they have a tendency to slip out from underneath you. The model you list is also an acoustic/electric hybrid. Were you planning on plugging into an amp? The Takamine is a more traditional acoustic, no pickup, and the model I'd personally go for based on what's been discussed in this thread. |
I wouldn't get an Ovation in the price range you're looking at. The quality isn't there until you get up past the 1k range. Takamine is an excellent choice, also look into Cort acoustics. Thay have some good quality ones for kinda cheap.

Try the Breedlove ranges. I went through a raft of acoustic guitars buying mine and eventually settled on the Breedlove Passport D20 F/S.
That said, acoustic guitars, more than any other guitar, are very much a personal taste. You NEED to play a few and pick the best, (Even of an individual model, since wood is wood and has varying qualities from piece to piece) otherwise its simply not worth it. |
