A Veleno, maybe? Keith Levene of PiL produced his ultra-sustained sound playing a Veleno. Here's a video about one of the first guitars made by John Veleno for Marc Bolan.

My Strat. Wildwood '10' Fender 57 Re-issue. Wildwood is a premier Fender dealer in Colorado who can get them to build small runs to their specs. This is a 57 all the way except instead of the period correct 7.5" fret radius it's a more modern 10". Upgrades I've made are putting in a 12 year old set of Suhr V60LP pickups (best strat pups ever IMO) and a Callaham bridge assembly with the Gilmour shorter length trem arm. The stock length gets in the way for me. And the bridge block has a nylon insert so the arm doesn't wiggle at all.
Super lightweight and resonant one piece ash body. She's a sweet ride! https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/...35&oe=55936658 |

Another thing which is not "correct" on my guitar, and probably not on yours, is the 5-step pickup selector switch which I believe didn't exist back then. Of course I'm happy to have it anyways. The guitar I've played most lately is a Godin Acousticaster that I bought used (at a very reasonable price) and got fixed up. It sounds friggin amazing. I love the telecaster shape and it's just really comfy and easy to play as well. It's the perfect electro-acoustic .. I took it to a gig with the band last december and it was just the best gig I ever played. I've never been that happy with a guitar on stage. Now I just want their nylon version as well ("multiac") which I've seen Al Di Meola (I'm a fan) plays. Here's a picture so you can see what it looks like (not of mine though). |
That's a toughie.
I'm really far too indecisive to say a definite favorite. Even out of the ones I own my favorites switch every now and then. Generally I prefer anything twangy or jangly, like Fenders and Gretschs. I'm also a fan of Teiscos. Out of the guitars I own, my favorite feel-wise and tone-wise (for Surf and anything Fuzzy) is my Teisco ET-210n I'd post a pic but not quite there yet, sadly. |
My Tele has been giving me some strange grief lately. I've snapped two A strings on the saddle (both during gigs) and an E once, with less than a few week old strings, always in the same spot. Did some research and apparently every once in a while during manufacturing something will slip and create a small bur on the saddle, which will quite literally cut your string like a knife over time, especially with frequent palm muting. Took it into the local shop and had it looked at, he plopped it down on his bench, filed down the saddle a bit, and lubed it with graphite.
Gig tonight, two day old strings (although thoroughly stretched and warmed up), the moment of truth, Lord have mercy on my two most important strings. |

Yeah first time it happened a fella from the band before us noticed, quickly ran over to his gear and passed me his guitar to finish the set, nice dude. We won't be forgetting a spare guitar this time in case the problem returns.

edit : By the way, I also got an original case for my fender and every time I open it, I get a solid whiff of that finish (nitro I guess?). That strat even smells heavenly! |
