You'd cream if you had a chance to jam my 10 year old Martin D28. Totally broken in and sounds like butter. You don't play it. It plays you.

I've heard good things about Martins. I always bought Martin strings for my Yamaha acoustic lol.

I've always liked the sound of plastic back ovations, too. But it would probably only be used for like 10% of my songs.

My favorite two guitars that I own at the moment are my Godins. I got me a Godin Acoustcaster from 1993 that I got cheap as the jack needed replacement (really cheap fix) and it sounds awesome. Even though it has a body like a telecaster, it sounds as roomy as a big acoustic steel string guitar and with the on-board EQ, you can get both twangy to meaty and everything in between. Awesome LR Baggs pickup in it.

This is not my guitar, but it looks like this :

Possibly, I already posted about this one, but either way it's worth mentioning because I now also have a 2014 Godin Multiac SA which is in a similar vein, but with nylon strings and you can hook it up to a Roland guitar synth (got a GR-55). For me, it is a wet guitar dream come true.

To finance this, I sold my vintage fender strat, which is a sore loss .. but still worth it. In the end, I actually preferred to play on my heavily upgraded Epiphone Les Paul, even if it was in a different price class from the strat.

Favorite guitar I've ever owned was an Ibanez Axstar I got for my 13th birthday, I sold it years ago and have been on the lookout for one but never have the cash when they pop-up from time to time. US and Japanese-made Jackson Rhoads are another favorite, love the body shape and playability of those.

I'm in a similar boat. I have a FSR american Strat and a Squier classic vibe I've modified and I usually prefer the Squier. Kind of goes to show that lower quality but tailored to your taste is better than super high quality but not exactly what you are looking for.

What changes did you make to your Epiphone?

I bought the HD-28 Retro last year and it sounds so great. Going to be butter in 10 years like you said. My Taylor I bought 15 years ago just sounds better and better every year.

Nice. When I first got my Martin I'd make a point at the end of each playing session to just bang out loud, monotonous chords for like 5 minutes - just to shake up the wood and speed up the breaking in process.

This isn't my favourite guitar but it's my most ridiculous. A few months for a joke I bought a booster box of these hilarious boy crazy cards circa 2000. Then I went ahead and put them on a cheap rondo douglas guitar I had. When I'm older I'm going to have to burn it or I'll look very creepy. Haha oh yeah and it's the guitar I use for high gain music so I stuffed the F hole with magic the gathering cards in order to lessen the feedback.

My fav

Gibson SG or Jackson KE2, both great guitars in their own right, having 2 different great guitars gives you the freedom of varied sound which I personally enjoy quite a bit.
