FL Studio is the porgram I'm most familiar with, so that's what I'm trying to mess with right now.

FL Studio does recognize my Tascam as a midi controller but I can't figure out how to use the instruments plugged in to the unit.
Normally in FL when you plug a guitar in you go to the virtual mixer and select the line in, but that only works for when the instrument is plugged directly into the computer. External devices and inputs aren't shown.

Like I said I don't have to use FL but if somebody could point me in the right direction to use my instruments that would be great.

Does Sonar recognize your Tascam?
Go into your audio options in Sonar and set your Tascam's first set of outputs (whichever are the master outputs that go to your speakers... and yes, you'll have to have speakers plugged into your Tascam, or you're defeating the purpose of using it as your audio interface) as the playback timing master and the first set of inputs as the record timing master.
Create an audio track for your guitar, and in the little I dropdown (this means input) on the audio track itself (you may have to drag the bottom of the audio track down to see it), select the channel your guitar is plugged into on the Tascam.
The O (output) will go to your master bus, or just to your tascam's outputs.

Can you do that?

In FL Studio

you have to set up your channel directions

so say for example the bass is plugged into R1... you go to the mixer and set up the input on one of the channels as R1

simple as that
