being a piano player myself, I'd say there is no "too late to learn". You have to realise that childeren who start at six know nothing about music, don't have a taste, and most of the time their parents asked them to do it. At a later age, you know what you want to play, and actually have motivation. The chance that you got forced by your parents is relatively small(kidding). I only play classical, light music (light music, in definition, everything that is not classical) doesn't interest me to play on piano, if I like it I will play it on the guitar.
I tried composing too, so I'd loved to hear your playing.
