I used to play bagpipes. Sometimes I miss playing, might pick them up again sometime. I've always been a fan of the band Saor Patrol:

Bagpipes and recorders are my least favorite sounding acoustic instruments. By that same token, I used to hate banjos but now love them so maybe it is time for me to reevaluate my aversion to bagpipes? The Wings' song Mull of Kintyre has bagpipes and it works in the context of the song. Peter Gabriel's Biko also has bagpipes that work in the context of the song.

Odd that the Red Hot Chilli Pipers are not mentioned in this thread. If you're talking about pipers kicking ass, that's the first band I think of.

I generally prefer smaller pipes though. There are many more varieties than highland pipes. I'm happy to see at least some Ulleann pipes earlier in the thread, but most of Europe has a bagpipe tradition if you go back a while.

My favourite bagpipe sound is the Northumbrian pipes. Look up Kathryn Tickell for a great player.

I love bagpipes
Most the German/medieval bagpipes. It's an epic sound, especially combined with electric guitars like in medieval rock bands such as Tanzwut, In Extremo or Saltatio Mortis.
I like that instrument so much that I startet learning to play the bagpipe a few months ago

No, hadn't heard of it so far. So I had a look on YouTube. Actually I don't like rap very much. But the pipes are great

I love bagpipes. Favorite solos:
The Snake Charmer doing Shipping Up to Boston/Enter the Sandman
Celtica doing Smoke on the Water/Scotland the Brave and Whiskey in the Jar.
These always get my rock groove going strong.
