Enough?
I need a new head in a bad way. Mine blew and my bands first show is in about a week and I'm a little short on cash ($450). I think I found one that will work. I love the sound, but I'm a little leery of the wattage. I was thinking of getting an Egnator Rebel 20 and using my two Kustom KG 4x12 cabinets with it. (I know, I REALLY need new cabinets) But is 20 watts enough for a small/medium venue?

2 - 4 X 12 cabinets should cover about anything (if the impedence is right) and will move a lot of air with not much "wattage." The efficiency of the speakers is also a factor. Wattage can be a tricky thing to estimate when it comes to covering specific venues, but I'd say if you like the sound that's key. Your speakers do the rest and if it isn't enough, the simplest microphone through the cheasiest PA will get you there. Since the amp you are considering is a tube amp with 2 X 6v6 power tubes, it will be a lot louder and more usuable than if it was solid state. A tube amp turned way up will sound great, unless you're specifically wanting a lot of clean headroom. 20 watts is plenty. 40 watts would be only about 3db louder than that (most people would hear 3db as slightly louder), so 80 watts theoretically is only about 6db louder. You'd need 200 watts to sound twice as loud. Last edited by sonar1; 11-15-2011 at 01:02 PM. |
