I play keyboard and percussion mostly. I'm pretty weak at classical guitar. and I would love to play the upright bass. Percussion has always been my favorite though. There are so many different instruments that fall under the category and they're all fun. I'm learning trumpet too.

I love marimba. I played percussion in band when I was in high school so I ended up playing a lot of marimba. Never did get good enough to play with 4 or 6 mallets though (well, I can only play chords with more than 2 mallets).

Ahh, I play Marimba.

Four mallets is a beautiful thing.

That's awesome. Too bad that instrument sucks to transport from place to place and goes out of tune with temperature changes. But the sound is so warm ind rich.

A marimba? Out of tune? I don't know what you're talking about.

The sound is beautiful, though.

And we transported it by truck.

I never heard of a out of tune Marimba either. Anyway, it's just a great instrument. Pretty easy if we already play the piano [as it works on the same basis, graphically].

I was in a concert for a German experimental percussionist. He was alone on stage with more than 25 instruments around him. I remember the mix between Marimba and Tympani was incredible.

It's easy to know the music, but not the technique. Same the other way around.

Marimba + Timpani is ALSO a beautiful thing.

They sound sharp when the weather is too hot and flat when the weather is too cold. Because the sound is produced by moving air through the resonators. The speed at which this air is moved is the speed of sound, which varies with temperature (v = 331m/s + 0.6m/s/C * T)...didn't mean to get really technical but when playing outside in the winter time (freezing cold!) they had us put little heaters under the marimbas for this very reason.

Oh. So it's not the Marimba itself.

Since I was in an ensemble, we'd all be in tune and out of tune together. xD

I guess it's not that big of a deal. They're just super anal (in marching band) about the quality of sound. We had to tune drums constantly too. We went really in depth about the properties of sound waves in one of my physics classes, which I think is really interesting. Anyways, my bad, I always seem to bring up the really nerdy stuff
