Bass players aren't too hard to find, now drummers, good ones are very rare nowadays.

i guess it depends on the are on what's availible instrumentally. like i hear people in other states looking for a drummer or bass player, but where i live alot of band are having a tough time looking for lead guitarists, as strange as it may sound.

Bass players and drummers were always hard for me to find when I was starting a band. Even guitarists sometimes. I play some guitar, but more ensemble pieces than anything.

Exactly. I think it's also difficult finding someone easy to work with. Yeah there are a lot of good guitarists, but who's to say they get along well in a band?

i've read the advice to this situation so many times from so many musicians it's not funny anymore but ultimately it boils down to this.

if you have to choose between a cool person / friend who isn't that good at the instrument or someone who's great at the instrument but doesn't get along with anyone else. choose the crappier musician. technical ability with an instrument is WAY easier to change than another person's attitude.

This is so very, very true. I've seen so many bands falter because the dynamic s of their relationships weren't working for them. Attitude and amiability are very important when it comes to making music with a group of people, IMO.

As above, I also agree.

One of my main reasons for starting Bass, other than to find a new musical identity, was because there is such a shortage of them in Alabama.
Also, i'd say it all has to do heavily with timing.
Where as two years ago, there were hardly any bassists, now we're overrun with them.
The major "want" right now is a decent singer.
I suppose that's always a "want" though :P

Also, I picked Other for harmonica.

I play the clarinet, and a little bit of saxaphone.
I don't like playing the saxaphone or the clarinet, but it's going to be what's getting me a scholarship.
