Who thinks that it's extremly achievable for one to teach themselves trumpet?
It's just an idle question, honestly. I just want to see what y'all think.
EDIT: Without the use of a teacher, such that you could find on youtube. Books are OK. |
ANY THING, IS POSSIBLE, IF YOU TRY HARD ENOUGH!!!!!!!!
cue motivational music here. |
I voted "Yes"
There are a lot of resources out there, anything from Youtube, to teach basic, to Mel Bay where you can obtain CDs Books and Videos, I sure you can find a pedagogical method for the trumpet anywhere online - that is enough to get you started, and with a lot of hard practice you could work you way up to intermediate level, but if you want to be an advance trumpet player like say a Jazz trumpet player I would recommend getting a teacher after you get the basic down - nothing's worse then shelling out major bucks for a half hour lesson as a beginner just to learn like three notes. |
It depends how much drive you have and how good your grasp on music theory is... I'm super lazy so I might not ever learn to play/purchase a trumpet.
|
Well, anyone with an internet connection can easily find teachers these days. There are lots of them on youtube for example.

Ive seen self taught musicians in tons of instruments... I dont know why a Trumpet would be any different. I always like seeing people who a self taught because they seem to be a relaxed and dont have so many rules while playing.

me! 3. If you're listening to music right now, you should probably thank a music teacher] WTF! i take it YOU'RE a teacher my question is ( if your logic is correct ) who taught the first person to play trumpet? |
i think it's totally achievable. obviously there are definite advantages to having a teacher. but i also think that music is a pretty subjective thing, and if i like what's coming out the end of my trumpet, then technically i can play the trumpet.
but to become a successful self-taught trumpet player, as in one that generates enough income to survive via the playing of his trumpet, you would need to have a pretty hermetic approach at learning. |

Often times they'll say things like "well I really want to be an actor, or the best guitar player ever." But whats most true is that they want to be famous (and acting is a vehicle for that) or they want to **** lots of women. If someone actually wants to do something, practice doesn't feel like labor. And when you can practice for hours, few things, if anything, is actually impossible. |
I'm sure it's been done before, BT.
Because you're a teacher and because you play trumpet, doesn't mean people can't do it on their own. |
