Jazz Drummer in Need Of Help!

So, I'm in the market for a new ride cymbal. I'm looking for a 22-24 incher that has really great stick articulation and isn't too high pitched and pingy, but not too low pitched and dull. I just want a mellow, cool jazz cymbal. ANybody have any suggestions/recommendations?

Just go to the store and hit them. If you like the sound buy it.

Yeah, quite helpful indeed. BUT, to keep from being hypocritical, I'll ask a good friend of mine. Certainly more in the market as far as drum gear. I'll get his response to you as quickly as possible.

Yea I generally have to use my ears to decide on cymbals. No combination of dimensions and metallic composition is going to override my ears in a decision like that.

I have found a general trend in my cymbal preferences though... the older, the better (up to a point).
So I tend to seek out second-hand cymbals. They generally have more character and more refined, smooth frequencies.

In any case, you need to hear it to decide on it. And if your a drummer, you could be in the middle of a room full of a million cymbals and it won't be boring. So go out and give it a go.

I wasn't trying to be insulting. I meant what I said. If you think a 200 dollar symbol sounds better than a more recommended 600 dollar one get it.

I emailed a friend of mine and here was his reply:

When I was at Stanton's studio I played a killa Bosphorus ride..Its a 22 in his Signature line. I also like many of the Zildjian Constantinople series, but they are very pricey. (around $500)

Yeah, but the brands are numerous. Going to a single store would only guaruntee you being able to hit a couple of cymbals. It's also important to mention that the reason he came here might actually be that a music shop isn't close enough (or maybe even big enough) to make a trip like that worth it.
