I actually learned to play songs with F#m before I learned F .. I somehow thought it was easier then. Maybe it is, I'm not sure - but you could try.
What you're really lacking is probably just strength. I'd say just keep practicing until your hand has beefed up. I know it's tempting to use the beginners F, but what you wanna do of course is to learn the real thing. The F is a likely and good place to start learning the barre chords (chords played up on the neck where you use finger(s) to press down multiple strings). After all, so much of a guitar is neck so of course you need to learn how to play it. Once you are comfortable with F (and barre), it opens up a whole new bunch of opportunities.

You can buy a finger strengthening machine that is sold at a guitar shop near you. But the best exercise is to just practice making bar chords. Accept that you will sound like shit for a while but with practice your bar chords will sound perfect and it will feel natural. Just practice.

first off - ALWAYS STRETCH FIRST next all you need is an old newspaper or sales flyer. the bigger the better. lay out the paper flat on a table. then lay your hand flat into the center of the piece of paper then crumple it into a ball using only your fingers. you don't need to do more than 3-4 full sized sheets to feel a burn at which point you should stop for the day. the whole point of the exercise is to increase your hand strength so that you can hold onto your epee while your opponent tries to beat it out of your hand and more or less stab you. so i'm pretty sure it'll provide enough hand strength to play barre chords hehehe |
