Back in the days when bass players used to play with only their thumb, that was where you'd put your other fingers. Weird, I know.

hahaha, funny that while i was typing that out i was considering putting it on the other side of the strings and having it as a thumb rest

Well, that's how a lot of people do it now, but I think it's pretty ugly.

I just use the pick ups as thumb rests.

same here. i was only joking about actually adding a specific thumb rest to the body. can't believe people really do that hahaha

Yeah, that's where most of the lacquer has worn off of the body, is right above the pick up.. It's strange, though. Where my arm rests on the body, it's glossier than the rest of the body.
