well it's really up to your own self-discipline. there's no reason you can't start trying to learn those more complicated songs. even if you only manage to 'get' a few parts of it for now it's still more techniques being added to your repertoire.

you'll never get better if you stick to what's comfortable and never challenge yourself. there is no failure, simply opportunities for greater learning.

I watched an uncle of mine when I was a kid, about 3 or 4. He was young and didnt like anyone touching his ****, so I would climb up it and just hit em when he wasnt around. I got busted and my people ended up getting me a miniature set. He got me coordinated and I picked it up naturally on my own...self taught. I cant be taught...Im to stubborn.

I figured trying some fast ass metal song would just be a pain in the ass and would only lead to frustration and trying some slow **** would be much easier. :/

well yeah that's true. but how would you develop your speed if you only played slow stuff?

there's a reason it's called practice.
