None in particular. Its mainly the hardware that matters. Like he said, double bass, lots of crash's, cowbells, nd whatever else you think you may need.

Freebase Dali 03-08-2009 04:25 PM

There isn't a best drum set for Metal. There are, however, best drummers for Metal.
What you have to understand is that regardless of the drum set you have, if you don't know what you're doing, your "Metal" drum set won't turn your drumming into Metal drumming.
You could buy Chris Addler's drum set and if you don't know how to play, believe me, the drum set won't help.

If I were you, I'd buy a simple drum set that will be durable enough to live through years of practice. When you're confident in your playing, then expand and begin adding stuff to your set. Start with the basics and work your way up. Starting out with a huge set is just going to distract you. Save the expenses and give yourself time to figure out whether this is actually what you want and if you stick with it, then reward yourself with additions and upgrades.
Years down the line, you'll thank yourself.

If you play metal... hit hard. Your drums will sound good. Hit hard. Very very hard. Almost anything will do.

JordanPlayDrums 03-15-2009 09:53 AM

If your going for Cheap And Decent I suggest A Rockwood By honer Drumset But replace the Snare Head and Get alot of crashes and a double abss pedal and itll be okay..

But if Moneys No Object Get a Joey Jordinson Signature Kit.

Kamikazi Kat 03-21-2009 02:07 AM

Any basic bass-snare,2 or 3 toms, hi-hat, crash and ride should work. Then, if you intend to make use of double bass alot, get some double bass peddles so you have a way to practice double bass. Thats all you really need, enough to allow you to practice.

But honestly, if you are just starting out, you don't even need the double bass pedals. There are so many more important things to learn then double bass on the drums.

Best metal drum sets.

I find that ddrum is always a confident choice when playing metal, I've played on several different ddrum sets throughout my career as a grindcore/deathcore/deathmetal artist.

They have a very player friendly site.

go to the ddrum.com site

you should like that.

p.s. whitechapel is the ****.

Sam-Y 06-23-2009 07:49 PM

Whatever you do, do not a buy a CB drum set.....lol

ElephantSack 06-23-2009 07:57 PM

I would recommend

Drum Workshop
Pearl
Tama
Gretsch
Ludwig
Premier
Ddrum
Yamaha

If you can't find anything out of those, I'm sorry.

Wow....I read pretty much all of these, maybe one of them didnt sound absolutely retarted. Starting with a set period no matter how great, Of course it wont sound perfect but you will learn what you need to in the beginning. Its going to take some time and patience.I started with a peice of.... and worked my way up, "Veridical Fiction" stated the same and I am agreeing absolutely. Its A musical instrument, You admire it, you love it, you appreciate it, same as any other. You start by experiment...you learn basics, you master them....and then your own style will take shape, A good drummer can tap into any genre.
I recommend you dont focus on just "metal", If you want to be a well rounded Drummer then learn it all. Look at some early famous drummers like Buddy Rich to all the drummers of our time...

Maybe one of them didn't sound absolutely retarded? Don't you think it's a stretch to call our responses retarded?

I think he was (over)stating the fact that no one seemed to recognize the OP's actual question as it applies to his situation as a beginning drummer who's setting his sights further than he's capable of traveling at the moment.

The replies weren't necessarily "retarded", but they were definitely not lending themselves to any sort of needed advice.

Yes, I do not mean to make sense... Ok not retarted. But, If your going to give advice...respect the question, people usually like an answer that will help them.

SpaceBetweenTheNotes 07-01-2009 04:13 PM

Here is some sound advice for the OP.
Based on the parameters provided in your query, I suggest you buy an entry level drum kit of standard sizes(22" bassdrum, 12" and 13" rack toms, 16" floor tom, 14"x5.5+" snare drum) suggested brands and models= Yamaha Stage Custom, Ludwig Pinnacle, Pearl Forum, Mapex Venus, Tama Swingstar
tune the snare up fairly tight, and tune the bass drum and toms fairly loose.
You are also going to need cymbals and a double pedal
I would recommend a cymbal pack that includes 14" hi-hats, 16" crash, and a 20" ride cymbal. Sabian and Zildjian make good entry level cymbals. Pearl and Tama make pretty affordable entry level double pedals.
Focus on gaining control of this basic setup before you add any more drums or cymbals.

A voice of reason, for once.

every metal band has a china cymbal and double bass but dont worry about all the hardware yet. first just learn to play.
