My first electric guitar was a Korean Samick - its as ugly as **** but has a great neck and very playable.

Don't be a ****. The way your phrased your second paragraph, implies that the first may have been a rhetorical question.

Now that we've established that, read my above post.

Oh. Well then, my mistake. And yeah, I know the newer Gibsons aren't nearly as nice as their older, quality guitars. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

AOL means you lose at life, the internet, and everything.

On a more serious note: With that kind of attitude towards things, your opinion has no value to me.

And if you stick around and read my past posts along with Mr. Daves, you might just ****ing learn something about guitars instead of blindly assuming things.

One problem is the dampness and moisture of Asia. The wood is very damp, and will warp once it is in a dry place. I've heard of people taking their guitars to places like Utah and Nevada and the necks would warp immediately.
The only "damage" I can think of is the fretboard and an unfinished/un-lacquered neck can dry out to the point of cracks appearing but the chances of cracks appearing in the wood on the neck can be greatly diminished by applying gun stock oil to the back of the neck and lemon oil to the fretboard as long as it isn't maple. Makes a world of difference and all guitarists should treat their fretboards with it.

I actually use fret-doctor. Its vastly superior to any other oil I can think of.
