Some great advice all round here. I`d also just start with small goals, for instance - learning a 12 bar blues riff. Then be proud of yourself when you achieve it.
The other thing is get some great sounding gear - i battled with ****ty Amps & Guitars for years & its hard to be inspired when all you hear is ****!
A good playable guitar with a good neck and action won`t break the bank & spend ALL your money on a VALVE Amp. Although i also like the Valvetronix series by Vox, terrific built in effects and very cheap.
