Best distortion/overdrive pedals?? (metal, punk, rock, single, fan)

If you can find it and have the money, a Marshall Shredmaster is a thing of pure beauty... I still regret not picking it up for $200 when I had that chance. That said though I've owned many many many stomp boxes in my life, but the only one that's stayed consistent has been an American Big Muff. No disrespect to the Russian model, but I just love the warm, big sound you get with the American one, but if you're going for a Sonic Youth noise sound, then the Russian model is the one for you.
