Piano Discussion
This is a thread for all the pianists out there. Discuss what you're currently playing or listening to or ask questions related to the piano.
I'm classically trained and have been playing for 8 years now. Right now I'm preparing Bach's Prelude and Fugue in D minor from the WTK Book II and Beethoven's 5th Sonata in C minor for a competition in January. |
I've been playing piano for about twelve years. I was trained classically but as I got older my style became pretty random. I have a Casio electric piano with weighted keys which rocks, and a really old Weinbach Belgian upright piano which is out of tune because I just moved house and the traveling screwed it up :/
I don't really learn other composer's work anymore, I mainly just make up my own stuff :) |
I'm self taught but have a basis in musical theory, I mainly create my own compositions but I play the odd classical piece.

Despite my handle, I play a lot of piano ... I have a little b.g. in classical - but am mainly self taught - making up my own pieces and style

I see. I really only play classical so I'm always on my real piano. I have yet to play in a band. Whenever I jam with friends I usually am playing the guitar, mostly just because I really don't know much improvisation or contemporary music on the piano.

hey Manny, how's the preps for your competition in Jan?
For piano works I like to listen to stuff that I can't yet play, like some of Bartok's works :P Just heard a bit of Harry Connick Jr's jazz piano of a christmas piece and am stuck on my chair in awe right now. Quote:

I have a casio as well. I've been playing since middle school, and most of my knowledge is theory, so my actual performance is a bit lacking.
I just learned Mad World by Gary Jules though and lately I've been working on learning some Dresden Dolls but Amanda plays rediculously fast! |
