To get back to the 12-strings, I would highly reccomend the schecter. I was fortunate to have gotten one for 400 used last year. It was a steal, as it was in perfect condition, and it came with the B.C. Rich case. The guitar sounds like a chrous of angels on clean, but gets dirty nice. As far as soloing, its a little harder, but not impossible, and can give you some effects you can't get on a 6-string. Two things though..... the electronics will need to be replaced because they can be tempermental, and it's not a regular allen wrench to adjust the truss rod, which I don't have, so my neck is like a banana
