Question I have a general/maybe advanced question...

Hello, I'm very new to this whole 'forum' thing, but I thought I could post here...

I have a question regarding microphones and their sound or their "pick-up" style... I'm not sure how to word it.

Is there some type of setting that is used for a different type of voice? For example when singing live, has anyone ever heard Lifehouse sing? The singer has the type of voice that uses a lot of wind (or air) even when singing in a low volume. Versus bands where the singer is screaming his lungs out or where the singer's voice is really thin. Are there different microphones or microphone settings for that, or is it just a matter of volume? What about feedback though?

I'm asking because I've started singing and I noticed I have a tendency to sing with a lot of 'wind' also, and if I were to start singing live at an open mic place or whatever I want to make sure the right setting is used.

Sorry if this is at all confusing.
