Jm, in all honesty, a Squier affinity Fat strat, or a Yamaha Pacifica will give you a great stable platform to learn the basics on, and they are both readily upgradeable with new pickups and so on for not much money if you stick with it and want something better without splashing out on a whole new guitar.

And they're both quite cheap too.
the olp guitars are around the same price as squiers...and play a hell of a lot better

i think the fender squier was a pretty good beginner guitar, you can get a box set with all the beginnings for like 300 bucks
