Which guitar is best for a beginner

i want to learn the guitar but there's so many acoustics guitars to choose from. I want a 6 string guitar

anyone got any advice?? anyone remember their first guitar?
keep in mind expense as well please

if electric- strats are the way to go
acoustic- i started out on a piece-o-**** acoustic and switched to electric.. havent touched an acoustic sense but i suggest going to a store and just listen to them maybe ask someone who knows about guitars to come with you

If you are going acoustic then get a washburn, they're cheap and fairly decent.

I got an Epi Paul Special II as my first guitar. It's decent, but it goes out of tune easily. If they still sold em' I'd reccommend getting a Squier '51. You could probably get one used though.

for your first guitar you REALLY shouldn't pay much attention to the name on the headstock so much as how the instrument feels in your hands. you're going to sound the same on a $99 piece of plywood as you will on a $3000 taylor when you're still learning chords.

second hand shops are ideal spots to find your first guitar. even if you don't know any chords yet just pick them up and see how they feel. so long as it feels comfortable in your hands and in your pocketbook you've got a winner.

once you've got your chords down and a few tunes under your belt and actually have an idea of what sort of sound your looking to get from your instrument THEN start looking for name brands.

my first one was a ultra cheap strat knockoff called a 'jaguar' wish i still had it. played it for about 2 years until i replaced it with a mexican strat that still sees action almost 13 years later.

If you're just looking for a first acoustic, you really can't go wrong with a Yamaha F310. Its effectively the de-facto standard starter guitar for many people, because for the price its very good. Its not a solid top, its not made from carbon fiberm its not going to have a super low effortless action and perfect nut height, but it IS a no-frills nice sounding piece of wood that at the price is very difficult to beat. I had one for a long time and it got beaten all to hell and still sounded nice enough. Its probably the only guitar I regret selling actually, seeing as it sounds better than my current cheapy acoustic.

The MIM Strats and Squire's are good for beginners. You can hot rod 'em later if you don't lose interest in a couple of years.

What I mean by hot rod is that you can replace the cheap stock pickups with higher-end, aftermarket pickups. It'll set you back a little over $100.
