I'm teaching myself right now too. I track my progress at missionrockstar.com. It'd be cool to keep in touch with someone who's just learning like me, so feel free to stop by and comment.

Nothing beats youtube, hundreds of people giving lessons, you can find demonstrations of thousands of songs played and slowed down to learn. And get lessons from someone around the world regardless of your standard of playing. I was thinking of starting up making some video lessons on there myself.

Also, if you've got a mate who lives near you and can play the guitar well, ask them to give you lessons. Nothing better than an actual guitar player to teach you for free.

most the lessons i found on youtube suck ass.... they either explain it but put your fingers on this fret*points* on this string*points* or dont even explain, just play it slowly...

ive only found one or two guys that had some good stuff

Halfa 01-25-2008 05:04 PM

or you could just look up tabs for really easy songs....and learn that way...

oh paul gilbert has some decent stuff on youtube. granted, he wanks a lot in it....and he really only shows his shreddy style and u dont get much else...but u can take his stuff and use that to build finger strength.

but dont try to get too shreddy...that just gets boring

Try expert village.

Also, I've been playing 9 years and honestly all I did was get my friends to show me a few chords. From that point on I just went through tab after tab after tab and playing whatever I liked
Now its 9 years on and I'm playing better than people twice my age.
