Bass amp

Laney something typical 4x10 1x15.


Guitar amp

This was my set up after we lost our bass player, run my 15inch thru it to give it some bottom end. noisey, messy and fun. I regret getting rid of the sovtek (brick) though.

i've got 4 amps at the moment.

marshall valvestate 40 - got it in 1995, really bright sounding, great for getting a good high sound when paired up with a darker amp in stereo.

peavey rage - 15w practice amp of doom. my old synth guy used to have one as well, we tried our best to blow it up one night. just couldn't fry those circuits. we ran a bass through it, synths, pedals galore. nothing. WILL NOT DIE.

traynor ts-140 - some old custom job from the early 80s - 2 10" speakers, weighs a ton. only 1 of 5 inputs work. reverb is shot. won't switch to the clean channel. sounds effing awesome full blast haha

warwick sweet 15 - punchy little bass amp that doesn't get all muddy on my low B string, even when i cut the tone.

vox runs some really really nice amps.
i wouldnt mind pickin up an AC30 if they werent so damned expensive

Engl Savage 120, only 2500 bucks, not as much as the SE (4k) and has PHENOMINAL TONE, midi foot switch is an extra 250 mind you

if you like that british sound, usually alot more mids, this is how it's usually phrased btw

Vox, Marshall = British sound

Fender = American sound, and when people say a "California" or "Rectofied" sound they are always undoubtedly speaking about Mesa Boogie. i'm a Mid Nazi, i keep it maybe 1.5 on the dial and loath that specific tone, but not a Mesa fan either (though their cabinets kick ass) i found my lover in Engl amps. I'm a German tone guy (WTF!? lol)

If you cut your mids too much, you'll never cut through in a band situation. The guitars voice is in the midrange. In a mix, if you have just bass and treble on your amp, the highs will get swallowed up by the cymbals, and the low end will get destroyed by the bass.

The idea in a band situation is to give each instrument its own place. When you're in your bedroom no mids full treble and bass can sound alright, but it will sound horribly thin when you try to play along with other people.

i used to do it when i was about 14
no one could hear me when i played leads and chords were just a big wall of sonic mush
then i sold that nice fender red knob super 60
coz...it wasnt hardcore enough (shakes head) i was such a fool
