List cheap not hard to learn instruments

I plan and using an array of weird but not hard to master instruments for my new project. So far i'm going to throw in bass/guitar and multi-track those and probably going to incorporate some screaming and maybe some drums. It'll be primarily acoustic or mellow.

List so far
- Harmonica
- Triangle
- Kazoo

Kazoo

Worked ok for The Fall

=D I was trying to remember the name of that one but couldn't thank you.

I've got a kazoo, they're good fun. You can always use those egg shaker things to keep time for the drums... Uhh. Ukelele(sp?) could be fun. That's about all I can think of, but you can always use a fair bit of percussion.

Tamborine....Cymbals....any sort of shaker/Maracas.

And you could always learn how to whistle! :D

Most things that are hard and hollow or wooden (or both) can be used as percussion instruments. Any kind of bin, deoderant can, glasses case, door, banister, table etc. can have decent acoustic properties so try it out.

Although they're not acoustic, you can get really cheap keyboards which are fine for playing tacky melodies on and can also give you some really lo-fi drum beats. I recommend the 'bossa-nova' button.

Xylophones/glocks/marimbas are all more expensive aren't they?

Oh! You can fill up bottles to different heights and then blow in them or tap them to make different pitches.

I'll think of some more later.

Do you have any animals that make noises? That would make an interesting addition to a track. Or elderly relatives who you can get to rap. Old people rambling is a type of music.

If you get a long tube and make singing elephant noises down it you have an instrument that I like to call the singing elephant.

If then tube is rigid and you blow a raspberry down it you have a makeshift digeridoo. You have to find the right resonant frequency to do this.

What about the good old (school) human beat box....

*Puts hand over mouth*

"boom chick boomboom chick wert wert dis is da remix boom chick......."

Go "wah wah wah" in a special way, cup your hands around your mouth and you will sound like a muted trumpet. A perfect finishing touch to sad occasions. Well, perfect if you're an idiot.

I was the best triangle player in my school band.

Anyway, the lap harp is a fun but easy to learn instrument, tuning it is a bitch though.

MORE COWBELL!!!

[/cliche drummer reference remark]

Most auxiliary percussion, bells/triangles/tambourines, are easy to learn. Just got to know how to keep a beat...... you'd think it was simple, but there's another thing; they other people you work with ALSO have to know how to keep a beat. HAHA. Or else what you can do is pretty moot.

a combination of fatigue, hunger and slight hyperness meant I couldn't stop laughing after I tried that....
