You sound surprised.

No, but I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

Jaco as a technical bassist is far superior if youu ask me, but apart from his stuff with weather report everything hes written bores the **** out of me and is only good for learning if you want to improve on the bass, i could never get bored of bootsy collins.

JACO PASTORIS #1 bass player ever!!!!!!!!!

The two are so different.

Jaco is more of a Jazz guy and Bootsy is a funk guy.

Both great at what they do.

The Unfan 01-16-2007 07:04 PM

Jaco wins outright.

TheBig3 01-18-2007 12:06 AM

Clearly Bootsy, and I'll thank you all for not bringing up Wooten.

littleknowitall 01-18-2007 03:04 PM

What's wrong with Wooten may i ask? Bootsy likes Wooten :D

skindredluver 01-18-2007 04:02 PM

Bootsy all the way

p.j. 01-27-2019 04:26 AM

Steve Swallow?

SmokeAndMirrors 01-27-2019 05:44 PM

Bootsy. Jaco's good too, but Bootsy's stuff just feels better to me.

Why are you asking me?

Two of my favorites and no disrespect to Bootsy on this but I am going with Jaco. I think I will pick Jaco over anyone for life lol

Even Louis Johnson? lol.

I think it's like comparing pizza to spaghetti. Sure they both traditionally have tomato sauce and cheese on top but that's about where it begins and ends.

Also Jaco pulled this off on stage -

From groovy jazz wizardry to a flash of harsh atonal shred to some Coltrane then wraps it all up into one for the finish. Brilliant.

Technically/musicianship I would say Jaco but I prefer Bootsy's groove and sound. He's less clinical.
