Guitar

DontRunMeOver 04-08-2006 06:07 AM

Hmmm, I can play all of those (properly or semi-properly, as in playing tunes to some standard by ear) except Brass. Well, my recorder and clarinet playing is a bit dodge too, but I'll count woodwind. Can we multiple-vote?

EDIT: Oh, main instrument. Still a tough one.

Levithan 04-08-2006 06:31 AM

Bass

Muzak 04-08-2006 07:12 AM

Woodwind: Alto Saxaphone

bass, because electric guitar involves too much effort

bass: the lazy guitarist's choice.

Rabid Sea Turtles 04-08-2006 10:03 AM

I can play a pretty good amount of music on piano...but I wouldn't say I'm great.

rocknrollstar5 04-08-2006 02:12 PM

its obvious that most people will say guitar as i did

thebassistX 04-08-2006 02:44 PM

:bringit: :bringit: uh i disagree bass is not for lazy ppl

bass takes twice the amount of effort to master than guitar
why?

because
1: anything done of guitar can be done on bass ie tapping, circle picking
its just harder cuz the strings are so much bigger
2. the bass strings are big soo moving fast is harder
3. there are most ways to play the bass than a guitar bow, fingers, pick ,slap / pop
:bringit:

Guitar's come standard with 6 strings. Basses come standard with 4 or 5. Guitars have more strings, and more chords. And if you play guitar in a band you are almost guarentied to get laid. Oh and Frank Zappa said "If you are a bass play in a band you are by definition a moron"

GI germs 04-08-2006 02:49 PM

then again, bass involves hitting (for the most part) one string at a time. no chords.
and there are less strings. bass lines are usually not as fast, as well.

He was talking out of his ass. If you play in a decent band you're almost guaranteed to get laid. If you play guitar you'll have very little chance of playing in a decent band. If you play bass, they snap you up!

Good drummers are even harder to find. Flexible guitarists are too.

littleknowitall 04-08-2006 03:12 PM

i playeed guitar for 8 years and i must say, i picked up a bass last year and its a bitch, but i've caught on really fast and i've progressed, and im starting to learn stuff like victor wooten (just barely mind you) and i find it a much more fun instrument to play. so go bass! (woo!)

That's true. My advice to all of the younger ones out there, take up the bass now. Or, if you have the potential to be brilliant on the drums, then take these up. Unless you're a truly great guitarist you won't get far in bands, mediocre guitarists either find it impossible to get into bands, or spoil the music of the band they ARE in. But you can be a completely average bassist and still get into a wicked band, just make friends with a great guitarist or drummer! In fact, in a way they prefer technically average bassists to brilliant ones, because the brilliant ones tend to mess everything up with pointless slap work.

So learn the bass and join a band.

And you DO want to be in a band, it automatically makes you cool (unless you're Billy Wyman or somebody like that...)

mosesandtherubberducky 04-08-2006 03:13 PM

It makes you even cooler if your music sounds good.

mosesandtherubberducky 04-14-2006 07:17 PM

Keyboard, Banjo, Harmonica and Guitar.

TheBig3 05-01-2006 01:41 PM

Harmonica

mosesandtherubberducky 05-01-2006 02:35 PM

That's hardcore Big3.

TheBig3 05-01-2006 03:22 PM

Yeah but you know what sucks, I bought an A instead of a C, but what im learning now is that if you draw instead of blow you can play otu of key, still what can I play with with an A? I think its like
B minor
C sharp Major
D and E. So yippie for me, until I learn how to play outside of my key, im stuck with those complimentry keys.

Mathor 05-01-2006 04:19 PM

I love my piano/keyboard. It would be acutely hard to compose my music without one.

Blain 05-08-2006 11:45 PM

Drums main, but I can play a couple of "The Offspring"'s songs on acoustic
