Favorite Scale
For people maybe slightly more educated in theory, what's your favorite scale? Personally, I like Dorian#4 and Lydian. Sharping the 4 just adds a little bit of spontaniety, and just sounds amazing if you hit it in the right place.

Harmonic Minor and Lydian. I honestly can't tell you why, I just like them.
|
i tend not to use the modal system and just improvise around my chord theory, saying that im usually just playing simple pentatonic stuff when i jam with mates anyway so heres not much need for anything too far out of the pentatonics. and im too lazy for the modes, honestly, all those bloody **** names, why cant we just call it scale a or something?

Blues Scale.
Its simplistice yes, and common, but it sounds great for my bands style. |
can't beat it :)
|
Major scale. Because I know it and you can base anything else off of it.
|
if you find the relative minor of the chord you can play the major scale 3 semi tones down from where you'd play the basic pentatonic and it would be exactly the same, it my excuse for not being able to solo well in major, solo in a major scale moley - well alright play me some 12 bar blues :D
|
hmm it really depends what type of music u play every scale has a different feel
|
I prefer the minor modes.
Phrygian and Natural Minor are very expressive, as well as Dorian. my fave would be a minor key. |
I'm really a fan of the Dorian as well, and the #4 does sound alright, but that's getting into more of a harmonic sounding scale, and I personally shy away from those most of the time.
