"Always fear the man with a Dobro......."

Nice! Love the mini Dean!

Plankton 06-07-2021 09:46 AM

Thanks mang. I play that Dean Uke the most out of all my guits. Just about every morning (if I remember lol), I'll play a bit for my plant before leaving for work.

As for that dobro, it's another MIC POS that was gifted to me a while back. It played ok when I first got it but it deteriorated quickly and is just about non-playable now from warped wood and cheap build quality. It's literally falling apart, but here's how it sounded the first week I got it. It's got a pre-amp in it so it was easy to plug in and go at it:

Amazing how a Dobro immediately brings out that southern Allman Bros type rhythm vibe!

Very cool.

Now I can work out while I play my knock-off POS MIC Les Paul. lol The slightest neck bend and that things gonna snap in two. What a hunk of junk. That Squier Strat plays real nice and that Schecter Diamond has it's pro's and con's, but that was bought the night of my first gig with Koncrete Pillow for real cheap about a decade ago. I think just over $200. My Washburn nylon in the back of that tree is my oldest. I bought her in 1999 and she's real buttery

Your "point of sale made in China" Les Paul looks like the Epiphone Les Paul Custom I gifted to my brother. (Actually my brother is a very talented drummer, but he also developed an interest in learning guitar too.) I told him if he ever wanted to go guitar shopping take me along. But does he? No. He ends up buying cheap stuff that is impossible to play. You know, your "point of sale" MIC stuff. So I gave him the Epi LP and told him the benefits of a shorter scale. He left the Epi in his basement and hardly bothered with it. So a while back we were talking, and he was complaining about his Strat style knock-off was hard to play. So I had to remind him of Epi Les Paul. Some time passes and he got back to me and said he found it so much easier to play. Now he says he leaves it out on a guitar stand and plays it every day.

The Epi Les Paul Custom was a unique find I came across in a used guitar store. I don't the country of origin. There's a possibility it was either made in Korea, MIJ, or MIC. There's no serial numbers on it to date it or find where it was made. It has a Kalamazoo headstock, this is years before I've seen them on their newer models. The guy who sold it to me thinks it could be MIJ cause of the headstock. It has a very thin neck profile, gold hardware, and four speed knobs! (Personally I like round baseball bat necks.) If I had a choice between a MIC Gibson knock-off or an Epiphone, I would definitely choose the latter.

That MIC LP's only purpose is to sit there and be a useless fake lump of pressboard and barely usable electronics. Bumps on the fretboard at the neck joint, warping, knobs just falling off, intonation is whacked and impossible to tune correctly, and getting it to stay in tune? lolololololol Good luck. It's probably warping even more out of spite right now as I type this. If you ever felt the need to leave the worst first impression you could ever possibly leave for a beginning guitar player and have them never want to pick up a stringed instrument again in this or any other lifetime and have them running as far away as they can get while screaming at the top of their lungs, hand them that MIC LP.

Glad you're bro got it sorted.

Oy vey.

My first guitar was the Ibanez LP Black Beauty "Lawsuit" guitar. I bought it in '82 along with a small Peavey amp for $80 from a guy who later went on to murder his mother and he also stole a killer white Takamine w/gold hardware shark body (MK) from my garage two days after I bought it. The kid was ****ed up on heroine and coke real bad. Anyway, I took that Ibby all the way to Germany and back, then two weeks later I heard the news. I gave that thing to the first person who'd take it after that. They're worth a couple grand now days too. **** it though. That thing was just bad mojo.

Me with the Lawsuit LP in my room at Ray Barracks, Germany:

I had a small addition to the wall of sound in my garage with the Line 6 Spider II half stack. I have 3 small practice amps that I could hook up as well, but I think this is probably good enough. I just might have the loudest garage on the block, but I haven't checked.

Maybe, but you just know that one of your neighbors has more discs than you.
