I've been looking to replace my current kit. I had finally after over year settled on a Gretsch Brooklyn series. Then I stumbled on Noble and Cooley. I purchased their Horizon kit. It has the vintage sound I have been looking for. Nice deep almost guttural resonance in the toms. I surrounded it with Paiste's Giant Beat series. 15 inch hi hats, 18,20 crash, 22 combo and 24 ride. The ride is the most versatile cymbal I've ever used.

Is that an Eventide Timefactor and a Electro-Harmonix Superego on top?

Good eye. Yeah, I love them. I run synths and drum machines through them via an aux channel.

Got a zither. It's hard to tune but after that it's endless fun. Or at least fun until it goes way out of tune again.

What you should do is hook up a contact mic to it, place it on your amp and use it as a drone, like on sitar, to whatever you're blasting out of your amp. It's all theory, it may or may not work.

Cheap works just fine for a practice instrument. Ive seen way too many kids blow their allowance for the next 12 years on an expensive instrument that they stop playing after a week.
