Played a brand new D-03 at the guitar shop for about 15 minutes, didn't like it quite as much as the one I played a few weeks ago, action was much higher too, at least I know it wasn't the same model now. Going to keep looking.

The hell is that?
I sold a few items that I wasn't using any more and got this. It's an LTD M300FM and it has the nicest neck I have ever had with a guitar. The EMG pickups are fun and the Floyd Rose bridge so far keeps everything in tune, although it's a Special and I've heard those can be finicky. I think I'm going to put some .12s on it, drop it down to B and use it as my death metal guitar. |

It's a sweet African instrument called a ngoni.

Honestly... this isn't my first guitar with a FR, but I could never get the hang of restringing them. Luckily, a friend of mine is a luthier and does my basic setups for free, or at a fairly low cost (usually a six pack).

When it comes to amps I've almost always used solid state combo amps due to budget and living limitations. Recently I bought a used Peavey Supreme XL head and Randall 4x12 cab, and while the cab is pretty nice, I'm a little less than enthused by the head. It was a steal at $115 (talked down from $160) but I find that the cleans sound very hollow and the lead channel sounds too compressed. I've got it dialed in to where I can play it, but it's not the sound I really want. I've been looking at alternatives but I can't really seem to decide on if I want to stay solid state (for the price) or if I want to go tube. I've been eyeing a Blackstar HT-5R head on CL for $250, but I'm not sure if 5w would be enough to be heard over a drummer in a gig. While I'm not currently in a band, I'd like to at least have a gig worthy amp. As I've never really used tube amps, what is the wattage equivalent to a solid state?

5 tube watts is freaking loud. Really loud unless the room is big. Not sure if you know this but watts don't work in a linear scale. 5 watts is half as loud as 50 watts. 10 watts is half as loud as 100 watts, etc.
Check this out.
