^Nice looking axe, dude! Those are a lot of fun to ply.

That resonator is a beauty. Hope to get one myself one day. Maybe for my sitting on the porch years. (-:

You going with an open E type tuning?

LoathsomePete 04-27-2014 05:50 PM

Thanks, I'm loving it so far. Not even my Schecter got me back into guitar as much as this resonator has.

As far as new tunings, I'm going to keep in in E standard for the time being, mostly as I relearn blues guitar technique and such, but after I have a good handle on that I'm going to grab a book or something on slide and look into different tunings and maybe try playing it with my banjo fingerpicks.

Awwww yeah, finally got my resonator guitar. Specifically a Gretsch Alligator Biscuit G9240. Another part of the Gretsch Roots Series and an amazing value for what you get. The sound is super crisp and amazingly loud, matching any dreadnaught acoustic guitar I've ever played. I can't wait to get a bottleneck guitar slide and start doing some slide blues.

Sweet!

I usually keep mine in drop D tuning. I get a bit more range that way when riding a bass beat while sliding.

Yeah I can't wait to start trying other tunings on it, but for right now I'm also focusing heavily on getting the basics of music theory down to the point where they're just second nature, and unfortunately that means staying in standard tuning for the time being.

Moss 04-29-2014 06:36 PM

Certainly nothing wrong with standard tuning! I do love open tunings for slide because chords are so easy. But being able to throw down in standard is awesome. Good luck to you. I keep planning to dive deeper into modes and improv but never seem to find the time.

Yeah I'm trying to do the same for jazz and as such I've really upped my theory revision.
