just got a freakin bonus so my first bass won't be a Gypsy Rose after all - it'll either be a Mexican Fender P or Jazz or a Squier Jazz

I'm a guitarist and I've built up quite a collection of gear.

Guitars:
ESP LTD EX-260 (Main)
Gibson Les Paul Custom (Secondary)
AXL Jacknife (Backup if all else fails)
Montana (Acoustic... Not sure on model number)

Amps:
Line 6 Spider III HD75 & Spider Cab
Line 6 Spider III 75W combo

A couple of years ago I got a cheap Les Paul replica and I've since done some custom modifications to it.

*Replaced stock pickups with EMG-HZ (best choice ever)
*Re-painted the entire body to a Black/Silverburst
*Replaced all knobs with custom dice knobs

Still a bit of work to do to it but when I finish it up it will become one of my most used.

Thats a nice ESP but your Gibby Custom isnt your main?? Those customs are BEAUTIFUL! They play like butter, sound like heaven, and can be used for litterly an type of music.

Yeah, it might be the amp I'm using but I've been unsuccessful in finding the tone I like with my Gibby. Still a damn beautiful guitar to play, but with me it's all about tone. My ESP far exceeds it with Line 6 amps.

Ah i forgot about that no wonder. Get to a guitar store PRONTO plug into the nearest tube amp around and I bet you your opinion changes. Theres nothing like a Les Paul running through even a semi cranked tube amp.

If anyone can get their hands on one, I highly suggest a Fender Deluxe VM tube amp. They're about $800 new, but I played through one recently, and it's probably my favorite amp I've ever played through. It's got sweet built in effects, a 12" speaker, and the chorus effect is an absolute joy to mess with for different sounds.

They do have a lot of power, though, (40W is a little much for a practice amp) so you may not want to mess with one if you've got a small apartment or something.

Still, phenomenal amp.

Agreed. Those babies sound great. I am always amazed the dirty and even high gain sounds I can get out of them with just a pedal or two thrown on the overdrive channel. Fender ftw.

The VM is definitely a good amp. I've always liked it.

My main set-up is as follows:

Gretsch G5120 w/ 11-50 flatwounds >>> MXR Dyna Comp >>> ProCo Rat >>> '59 Fender Bassman LTD.

Picture of my amp/pedals:

Yeah, I keep my pedals on top of my amp, because I never really turn them off when I'm playing, thus it saves me the trouble of using two ridiculously long cables to connect my guitar to the pedals, and my pedals to the amp. Instead, I just have my long cable running into the Dyna Comp, some nondescript 6' cable running from the Dyna Comp to the Rat, and a regular patch cable from the Rat to the amp's input.
